To define what a true frightening film experience would be like then watch The Exorcist, no film is the 70’s caused panic like this film did and still does today for those first time watchers. Those who were lucky enough to see it in the cinemas witnessed its grasp on viewers, some sat glued, some were paralyzed with fear, some took offence to it, some believed it and piss bolted out of the cinema, some have mental breakdown due to the film effect. This is a pure horror film and is without a doubt one of the top ten scariest/ classic films ever created… my hats off to you Mr. Fredkin.

The Story
When a young teen girl Regan (play fantastically by Linda Blair) is possessed by the devil the nightmare encapsulates a single mother and creates her world a living nightmare. When she receives the help of two priests Father & Father a battle for Regan’s soul rages, do they have faith to fight this evil and save Regan’s soul and her life.

The first time I saw this film I was stricken with a panic I had never felt before (well not since Halloween) I saw this film in the early 1980, I didn’t know to much about this film and what sort of long lasting impact it would have…. I soon found out. I was equally frightened but I found myself enjoying it. Though this nagging feeling kept going through my head….”Could this happen for real and if so could it happen to me?” now I came to realize later on possession doesn’t exist and if it did we would never hear about it. Even today when I chuck it on to watch I still am amazed how well it has maintained it brilliance, it’s one of those rare and precious classics that still can out scare 99% of the competition. It took me a couple of watches in which I noticed the ghastly face that appears time to time and I had never seen the spider walk until I saw the 25th DVD edition and the spider walk was added in…. all I can say is fuck me, one of those ultra brilliant moments that will leave you gobbed smacked.
This film will remain a true classic and one of the most talked and loved horror film of them all.
Rating of fear 5/5 this film will tighten your sphincter I guarantee it.

The Exorcist The famous scene in which Regan’s body rises into the air; this will raise the hairs on anyone.

An American werewolf in London

1981
97 minutes
Director & Writer: John Landis
Cast
David Naughton as David Kessler
Griffin Dunne as Jack Goodman
Jenny Agutter as Nurse Alex Price
John Woodvine as Dr. J. S. Hirsch
Lila Kaye as the Barmaid

Story
Two American back packers are traveling across Europe, their first stop northern England, where they meet some unfriendly locals that are hiding a secret. Traveling across the moors, they notice it’s a full moon and something is stalking them. Jack is killed and David survives and the true to the secret starts to show its self. David starts having frightening and weird dreams, running naked, biting deer’s legs off, demented creatures murdering his family and on top of that Jack has come back to warn David that he is fact a werewolf. On the next full moon David changes into a werewolf, and goes on a rampage killing six people. When David realizes that he was the cause and Jack was right, he disappears into a seedy cinema and again starts to transform. Again the werewolf goes on a terrifying attacking spree in Piccadilly Circus. The werewolf is corned in an alley and is shot and killed.

The Moors
This scene is without a doubt one of the most tense filled rides, it begins with a howl and when the two lads become fearful…. So do us. Then it starts stalking them in the distant dark, the howl become more frightening, it chases them to a scare (David falling over) before the main scare (brilliantly done) then the werewolf attacks. What makes this scene all the more frightening is the locals in the pub, trying to cover up something in an off-putting way. Their treatment towards strangers, their stares of untrust…. The moors them selves are frightening enough, but add the bluish light, unnatural misty fog, something you can hear but cannot see…. Hold tight to your sphincter.

The Transformation
Clearly one of the greatest horror moments in history, the effects are without a doubt above anything at that time and still today, David changing into the wolf is done flawless, it’s without a doubt the coolest werewolf ever to grace a screen. No werewolf before or since has ever looked this great (sorry Howling and Dog Soldiers fans) the thing that made it so memorable, was the snout extending out…. I was blown away by this and still am.

Returning to East Proctor
Properly not the most talked about scene, but I found this scene some what creepy, when the soul bearing local tell the Dr. “that it was a mistake” and “It’s almost full moon, he’ll change, he’ll…” and then cut off with the chess playing local as their secrets remain in that village. The location and atmosphere is cold, almost like the locals.

Six of the Bloodiest
Though the death scenes are quick, leaving the viewers imagination to conjure up grotesques images. But it’s the little build ups, the two fun loving couple right up to the moment of death, are still having a laugh. The three winos and their brave little dog, when the wolf howls a ripper of a line is produced “That’s not Winston”. But who can forget the tube station chase, pure intensity.

Piccadilly Circus Madness
Bursting out of the cinema and causing havoc in London, how bloody awesome. Causing accidents, nipping at people’s legs, causing panic and fear, truly a fantastic ending for a fantastic film. The best this about this film is even though it’s 28 years past, and maybe the in your face scares aren’t that jumpy anymore, but the tension, the effects, the acting, the humour, the gore, the atmosphere, still remain…. Please never remake this.

This will remain the greatest werewolf film ever made, though it has been rivaled and some great other werewolf films have came out. Though to many this will remain the best.
