From the plaque on the gate:

One of the earliest examples of ecclesiastical architecture in an Australian Country town. A memorial to the first minister, Rev Robert Russell MA, stands at the front. The freestone pillars were transported in one pieve from a quarry at Deddington, the property of colonial artist, John Glover

From the plaque on the gate:

First school and chapel erected nearby in 1837 were replaced by a larger church in 1844, later demolished because of faulty foundations.
The spire is known as the Whitehead's Folly, after the donor, John Whitehead of Nile.
